Preschool Classes

Parent/Tot Gymnastics and Tumbling and Tiny Tots Gymnastics and Tumbling

GymStars’ preschool program is designed to give your child the best learning experience in a fun and exciting class. Children will learn skills on vault, bars, beam, floor. The preschool classes are a wonderful way to prepare children for entering school because students learn to listen to and follow directions, share, and how to wait their turn and socialize with their peers. Your child is grouped together with other children by skillset.

Parent/Tot Gymnastics and Tumbling – Age 2 ‐ 3

This class is for children age 2 ‐ 3 and a parent to assist. The class is a half-hour of introductory level gymnastics basics, core body awareness, and development. It’s not easy! Your child will be on the bars, beam, vault and floor. The parent helps their child learn basic skills; listening to the coaches, following directions, staying in line, and taking turns. Your child is grouped together with other children by skillset. Your child will run into obstacles, may hit a wall. They pull through. The sport isn’t easy. Difficulty is part of the sport of learning those new skills. It helps with the progression to the next level immensely. Our objective is to level up your child to be on their own. At any age, if we think your child is physically and mentally ready for the next level, we move them.

Key Skills

Floor: Front roll, body positions, intro to backward rolls, cartwheels.
Vault: Straddles, skipping, running, series of jumps.
Beam: Walks forward, backwards, and sideways.
Bars: Front support, roll out, hang, and swing.

Tiny Tots Gymnastics and Tumbling (Xcel Copper Level 1 Gymnastics LITE Class)– Age 4 ‐ 6

This is a coed introduction to gymnastics and power tumbling class. Tiny Tots Gymnastics and Tumbling will help children gain confidence, enforce structure and listening skills, improve agility, flexibility, coordination, teach sportsmanship, build strength, self-esteem, flexibility, learning lots of new skills, and cooperation. Your child is grouped together with other children by skillset. Your child will run into obstacles, may hit a wall. They pull through. The sport isn’t easy. Difficulty is part of the sport of learning those new skills. It helps with the progression to the next level immensely. If your child is 6 years old and has some experience, we will test them to see if Xcel Copper Level 1 Gymnastics is the fit for them. This is an Xcel Copper Level 1 Gymnastics LITE class. Our objective is to level up your child to Xcel Copper Level 1 Gymnastics. At any age, if we think your child is physically and mentally ready for the next level, we move them.

Key skills

Floor: Front and back rolls, cartwheels, handstands, back walk-over.
Vault: Hurdle to a spring board, knees on, squat on, straddle on, handstand flat-back
Beam: Walk - Forwards, backwards, and sideways, jump, scale, kicks, and rolls, L’s and T’s.
Bars: Pullover, cast, back hip circle, roll out.

Girl's Gymnastics

Beginner Girls Xcel COPPER Level 1 Gymnastics

This class is an entry-level gymnastics class for girls 6 and over. Objectives for this class are to increase skillset, confidence, agility, flexibility, and strength. Students will learn the USA gymnastics Xcel Copper Level 1 routines and be able to compete in AAU gymnastics competitions and Championships.

Key Skills

Floor: Front & Back rolls, cartwheels, bridge, handstands, intro to limbers, and back kick overs and round offs.
Vault: Handstand flat-back, straight jump, pike, straddle.
Beam: Mount, v‐sit, jump, pivot, T-stand, kicks, and cartwheel dismount.
Bars: Pullover, cast, back hip circle & under swing dismount. An example of a routine that meets all the requirements would be: Jump to Front Support- Cast- Back hip circle- Cast off stand dismount.

Beginner Girls Xcel BRONZE (advanced) Level 1 Gymnastics

This class is an entry-level gymnastics class for girls 6 and over. Objectives for this class are to increase skillset, confidence, agility, flexibility, and strength. Students will learn the USA gymnastics Xcel Bronze Level 1 routines and be able to compete in AAU gymnastics competitions and Championships.

Requirements

Floor: Backbend kick over, roundoff, full handstand, backroll to pike stand, leap.
Vault: Solid handstand
Beam: T stand to lever, pivot in releve, leg swings above hip height, cartwheel dismount
Bars: Pullover, backhip circle, leg cut, squat on dismount.

Girls Xcel BRONZE, Level 2 Gymnastics

This class is an intermediate level gymnastics class for girls 6 and over. Must have coach’s approval for entry. Objectives for this class are to increase agility, flexibility, and strength. Students will learn the USA gymnastics Level 3 routines and be able to compete in AAU gymnastics competitions and championships.

Requirements

Floor: Backbend kick over, roundoff, full handstand, back roll to pike stand, leap.
Vault: Handstand flat-back to matt stack.
Beam: T stand to lever, pivot in releve, half turn, Front and back rolls, leg swings above hip height, cartwheel dismount
Bars: Pullover, back hip circle, mill circle, leg cut, squat on dismount.

Girls Xcel SILVER, Level 3 Gymnastics

This class is an intermediate level gymnastics class for girls 6 and over. Must have coach’s approval for entry. Objectives for this class are to increase skillset, confidence, agility, flexibility, and strength. Students will learn the USA gymnastics Xcel Silver Level 3 routines and be able to compete in AAU gymnastics competitions and championships.

Requirements

Floor: Minimum of two directly connected acro skills, one must have flight (ex. roundoff – back handspring)
Either a 2nd pass of 2 directly connected acro skills (no flight required) or 1 acro with flight (ex. roundoff backward roll or a front handspring)
A dance passage with two skills, one of which is a leap with a 90-degree cross or side split — they can be directly or indirectly connected
Minimum of 360 degree turn on one foot
Vault: Handspring over stack matt to dismount, 1/4 to1/2 on, to land on feet facing stack mat.
Beam: Minimum of ½ turn on one foot, one jump or leap that reaches a 90-degree angle (ex. Straddle jump), one non-flight acro skill (ex. Cartwheel), a dismount (ex. Roundoff off the beam).

Girls Xcel GOLD, Level 4 and 5 Gymnastics

This class is an advanced level gymnastics class for girls 6 and over. Must have coach’s approval for entry. Objectives for this class are to increase skillset, confidence, agility, flexibility, and strength. Students will learn the USA gymnastics Xcel Silver Level 3 routines and be able to compete in AAU gymnastics competitions and championships.

Requirements

Floor: Minimum of two directly connected acro skills, both must have flight (ex. front handspring, front tuck), Either a 2nd pass of 2 directly connected acro skills with flight or an aerial or a Salto (ex. roundoff back handspring back tuck or a side aerial), A dance passage with two skills, one of which is a leap with a 120° cross or side split –they can be directly or indirectly connected, Minimum of 360° turn on one foot
Vault: Must perform a minimum of a front handspring vault.
Beam: Minimum of 1/1 (360°) turn on one foot, Two different dance skills, can be isolated or in a series (ex. split jump and straight jump), One jump/leap that reaches a 120° angle (ex. split jump with 120° split), Two acro skills and one of the skills must achieve or go through vertical (ex. cartwheel and backward roll), A dismount (ex. roundoff off the beam)
Bars: A minimum of 6 “A” value skills, A clear support skill finishing at horizontal or above (ex. cast to horizontal), 2 Circling Skills – the 2nd skill can be a repeat of the first or a different skill (not the mount or dismount), A Dismount from the high bar.

Girls Xcel PLATINUM, Level 6 and 7 Gymnastics

This class is an advanced level gymnastics class for girls 6 and over. Must have coach’s approval for entry. Objectives for this class are to increase skillset, confidence, agility, flexibility, and strength. Students will learn the USA gymnastics Xcel Silver Level 3 routines and be able to compete in AAU gymnastics competitions and championships.

Requirements

Floor: 6 "A" & 1 "B" valued skills, Minimum of two directly connected acro skills, both must have flight and one must be an "A" or "B" Salto (ex. front handspring, front tuck), Either a 2nd pass of 2 directly connected acro skills with flight or a  "B" Salto (ex. roundoff- back handspring- back tuck or a front pike), A dance passage with two skills, one of which is a leap with a 155 degree cross or side split --they can be directly or indirectly connected, Minimum of 360 degree turn on one foot
Vault: Must perform a minimum of a front handspring vault.
Beam: 6 "A" & 1 "B" valued skills, Minimum of 1/1 (360°) turn on one foot, Dance series with 2 skills (they can be the same or different skills), One jump/leap that reaches a 120° angle (ex. straddle jump) -- can be included in dance series, One acro skill that has flight (ex. back handspring) or an acro series with or without flight (ex. handstand, back walkover).
Bars: 6 "A" & 1 "B" valued skill, A clear support skill finishing above horizontal, A Circling Skill (not the mount or dismount), A Kip, A Dismount from the high bar.

Girls Xcel DIAMOND, Level 7 and 8 Gymnastics

This class is an advanced level gymnastics class for girls 6 and over. Must have coach’s approval for entry. Objectives for this class are to increase skillset, confidence, agility, flexibility, and strength. Students will learn the USA gymnastics Xcel Silver Level 3 routines and be able to compete in AAU gymnastics competitions and championships.

Requirements

Floor: 5 “A” & 2 “B” valued skills, Two separate acro connections each with a minimum of two directly connected acro flight elements (ex. front handspring, front pike and round-off back handspring back tuck), Two different Saltos (can be isolated or in a series) and one must be a minimum of a “B” value (the front pike and back tuck from the previous requirement would fulfill this one), A dance passage with a minimum of two different leaps, jumps or hops, one of which is a leap with a 155° cross or side split — they can be directly or indirectly connected, Minimum of “B” turn on one foot ( A 540 degree turn is a “B”).
Vault: Must perform a minimum of a front handspring vault.
Beam: 5 “A” & 2 “B” valued skills, Minimum of 1/1 (360°) turn on one foot, Dance series with 2 skills (they can be the same or different skills), One jump/leap that reaches a 155° angle (ex. straddle jump) — can be included in dance series, One acro skill that has flight (ex. back handspring) that can be isolated or in a series AND an acro series with or without flight (ex. handstand, back walkover), Salto or Aerial Dismount.
Bars: 5 “A” & 2 “B” valued skills, A clear support skill finishing a min of 45° from vertical, Circling Skill – minimum of a “B” value, A Release, Pirouette or 2nd Circling Skill — minimum of a “B” value, A Salto or Hecht dismount from the high bar.
